I drove trucks for 26 years. I thought I knew what it meant to be tired. I thought I knew what it meant to be stopped. I didn't. In 2025, I had a stroke. Then I was gone for seven days. A coma. I'm going to tell you what I saw down there, because I have not been able to put it down since. A figure came to me. It was shaped like water. A hologram, holding a staff. It didn't speak to me the way you speak to a man across a table. It just moved, and I moved with it. It walked me through the hospital. My eyes turned when it turned. My body turned when it turned. I was not choosing. I was being led. And it showed me scenes. Different scenes of my life, one after another. I'm not going to pretend I can tell you the order. I can tell you they were mine. Through all of it, my two sons were in my mind. Every scene. Every turn. They never left. Then, near the end, something changed. A waterfall hologram came at me. It was trying to pull me through. I could feel it wanting me. I pushed back. It came again. I pushed back again. And again. I was not going through. Not that way. Not with my boys in my head. Then a red beam struck me. Dead center of my forehead. My eyes opened. Slowly. To the left. My father was walking toward me. And he had a look on his face like I was gone. Like he was already walking toward a man who wasn't there anymore. I didn't understand that look. I didn't understand anything. I felt crucified. That's the only word I have. Laid out in that bed like I'd been nailed there, and I didn't know why. I didn't know why I was there. There was a tube down my throat. A ventilator. My mouth was dry, so dry. My head kept moving, and I wasn't moving it. A machine was doing my breathing for me. Think about that. Twenty-six years behind the wheel, and I couldn't even take my own breath. My mother was in the room. I knew her presence. Behind me, I heard crying. I believe that was my sister. I couldn't turn to see. I just heard it. Then my girlfriend at the time came in. All of them, there, around a man who didn't know what had happened to him. And I had to stay still. That was the hard part. I had to stay still, because I was starting to choke. So I stayed still. I let the machine have the breath. I let them look at me. That was the day I came back. But coming back is not the same as being whole. Ahead of me were three months of dialysis. Ahead of me was the work of rebuilding myself from the ground up. I'm aiming for a full recovery by the end of 2025. And I'm not doing it empty-handed. I have a foundation now. Hebrew Israelism. That's what I'm clinging to. This book is where I start finding my voice again.
