Hot take, and I'm putting on my asbestos cloak: there's no such thing as a "born witch." Witchcraft is a craft. The clue is right there in the name. It's a thing you DO. It's a practice, which means (stay with me here) you have to practice it. Being born into a family of practitioners is a lot like being born into a family of scholars. Sure, they've got a lot to teach you. Grandma's got decades of knowledge, a kitchen full of jars with questionable labels, and opinions about your moon phases. But what do they teach you first? To listen. Nobody hands you a PhD at birth because your aunt has tenure. Here's what birth gives you: ears, a brain, and the ability to act. That's it. That's the whole inheritance. Everything else is on you. So when someone announces they're a "born witch" or a "legacy witch" or a "hereditary lineage-bearer of the Ancient Whatever," I get a little twitch in my left eye. Because I worry (and I could be wrong, but I've met a few of you) that "I've got the gift" is too often code for "I don't have to practice or pay attention." The gift is not a gift, y'all. It's the work. It's the time, the energy, the study, the showing up on days you'd rather be on the couch. And no, I don't mean you have to buy a $200 course, join a coven with a dress code, or follow anyone's Official Path. I mean: 🌙 Listen to your Mother (the Earth, not the one asking when you're going to get a real job) 🌙 Listen to the energy around you 🌙 Listen to the rhythms of your own body 🌙 Listen to others walking similar roads 🌙 Find the practices that feed your soul 🌙 Then DO THEM. Regularly. On purpose. If you practice your Craft, you're a witch. Full stop. If your only qualification is that your name happens to be Samantha or Tabitha Stephens, then I regret to inform you that you are a character on Bewitched, and you can't twitch your nose and get out of the work either.
