The Pope and I Asked the Same Question

On May 25th, Pope Leo XIV published Magnifica Humanitas.

92 pages on AI and the human person. By chapter three I had to put it down.

Not because it was hard. Because it was familiar.

Leo XIV opens with one image. Every generation inherits the task of shaping its era. And every era runs the risk of building a Tower of Babel. Something enormous. Something technically impressive. Something with humanity at the center of itself rather than God.

He applies that directly to AI.

The foundation models. The giant data centers. The aggregation of human knowledge trained on everyone without consent. Power concentrated at the top. The individual flattened into training data.

Then he asks one central question. What must not be lost?

His answer: the human person. The interiority. The irreducible uniqueness. The imago Dei inside every individual that no model can replicate, own, or average away.

That is the same question I started with at Uare.ai.

We wrote our answer in six words. Authentic, not Artificial.

When we built the Human Life Model we set one test for ourselves. Is the individual the dataset, the owner, and the beneficiary? Data flows inward from one person. Value flows back to that same person. Any AI that trains on aggregate populations and applies outputs back to individuals fails that test. No matter how personalized it claims to be.

Leo XIV calls this subsidiarity. Dignity and power flowing down to the individual, not up to the institution. He frames it as a core principle and applies it directly to AI governance.

We built it into our architecture before this encyclical existed.

The Human Life Model captures seven dimensions. Identity. World. Story. Mindset. Drive. Pattern. Growth. Not a tech spec. A map of who a person actually is. Individual AI trained on you. Owned by you. Getting smarter by learning more of you. Sounding like you on your best day.

He closes Magnifica Humanitas with the Magnificat. Mary's song. He has scattered the proud. He has lifted the lowly.

The entire foundation model paradigm is power at the top. A few companies. A few data centers. A few decision-makers determining what billions of people get to think and create and access.

Uare.ai is the inversion. Hundreds of millions of Individual AIs. Each person owning their model. Value flowing back to the expert, the creator, the teacher, the founder. The person who has something worth preserving.
